Overview

Dominique Blain lives and works in Montréal. Her main mediums are photography, installations and sculpture. Social and political history is at the core of her work, driven by the need to understand where she comes from and what place she occupies in a world in constant turmoil. She is particularly interested in our perception of reality, interrogating the tensions between objectivity and subjectivity, perception and representation and raising awareness on sociopolitical issues. She has exhibited in several North-American and European cities, as well as in Australia (Sidney Biennale, 1992) and she has made several public artworks in Quebec. This catalogue invites the reader to discover four artworks exhibited by the Canadian Cultural Centre of Paris: Monumenta, a set of photographs with an installation; Dérives, five screens showing videos on the subject of migration; Aether, prints on paper featuring various skies, and Mirabilia, auto-lighted glass blocks displaying a cut-out shape in the middle representing an artwork that has been stolen or destroyed.
