"""Measure It!: Distance, Area, and Volume"" is a five book series that includes: Mass and Weight, Speed and Acceleration, Temperature, and Time. These books give introduction to the key terms, how they are used in everyday life situations, and the history of that measuring system. Books include graphs, conversion charts, photographs, glossary, index, further reading and websites. -Joanna Wasden, Bryant School Arlington Independent School District 2/10/2011-- ""Arlington Independent School District"" Upper-elementary children sometimes struggle to understand the different aspects of distance, area, and volume. Children will have fun as they read and apply their knowledge in Measure It! Distance, Area, and Volume. Math and science are combined to teach children about these topics, and real-world applications are discussed. Each chapter begins with an engaging question that raises a child's curiosity about measurement. Students' problem-solving skills are strengthened as they solve word problems in the sections called ""You Do the Math."" The book includes topics such as what these measurements are, tools used for measurement, metric and English units, and conversion between the units. Children will find interesting facts in the ""Did You Know?"" sections. Important vocabulary words are printed in bold text and can be found in the glossary. Children will have fun trying the investigations interspersed throughout the book. The investigations are an enticing addition for children to learn about measurement. Each book in the series also includes a ""Find Out More"" page that includes other books and websites children can use to find more information. It's difficult to find books about measurement that upper-elementary children will read and enjoy. The series is concise with detailed photographs and helpful graphic organizers.-- ""Science & Children"" A practical guide to using distance, area and volume. Relevent- real life issues of math. High interest - photos, charts and graphs. Rita Solen, Azalea Gardens Middle School Norfolk Public Schools11/10/10-- ""Norfolk Public Schools"" This is a non-fiction book that discusses various aspects of measurement. Each section explains metric vs. U.S. Customary measurements.Every couple of pages the book challenges the reader to do the math or do an experiment. Clear examples of daily ways each form of measurement is used are given. The book has good explanations. Complete and appealing for upper elementary but understandable for students as young as third grade.Text features include: Table of Contents, Glossary, Find Out More, Index, answer to math problems section, photographs, captions, experiment areas, and explicit diagrams. -Larrienna Eisenbeisz, Bancroft School Omaha Public Schools 11/14/2011-- ""Omaha Public Schools"" This well-written series shows everyday life applications for math and uses colorful illustrations, pictures, and graphs to appeal to students. Each topic in the series is carefully explained for the target audience, with examples to illustrate points. Size of text and font is suitable for this age group with uncluttered pages designed so that text is set off with the illustrations, graphs, or drawings placed vertically. Key words appear in bold. Science specialists and classroom teachers will be glad to have these. The series is a nice replacement for those old, tired, unattractive books that may be gathering dust on library shelves. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites. -Leslie Greaves Radloff, Teacher/Librarian, Maxfield Technology Magnet, St. Paul, Minnesota Library Media Connection November/December 2010 Issue-- ""Library Media Connection"""
