OverviewSadaf Modarres was born in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. From an early age, words became her companions in solitude, guiding her-quietly and unknowingly-into a world where silenced voices are heard again and hidden tears find the courage to speak. She did not begin writing with the ambition of entering the literary world, but rather as a means of inner survival. In her words, we witness the journey of a woman who, despite hardship and loss, still stands-searching for a voice amid the constraints of tradition, migration, silence, and society, and redefining herself along the way. During her university years in Balkh, she became active in literary circles, poetry readings, and cultural gatherings. It was in these spaces that she first began sharing her heartfelt writings-simple yet sincere reflections on the lived experiences of Afghan women; women who endure exile and pain with silent resilience, carrying within them a world full of dreams and unspoken cries. Zene Ke Sher Shod (""The Woman Who Blossomed into Verse"" in Persian) is her first published collection-a poetic testament shaped by years of life on the blurred borders between homeland and exile, presence and absence, belonging and drifting. Now settled in the United States, Sadaf continues to live through words, holding fast to her belief that the voice of the Afghan woman-despite being overlooked and constrained-can still write, paint, dream, and be heard across all distances.
