This picture book tells the story of how one little boy, Xander, came to be the son of his two loving dads through surrogacy. The underlying message, that love is what brings a child into the world, shines all the way through this book from start to end. When Dad and Papa met, they fell in love, travelled the world, celebrated life with friends and family, and knew they wanted more: a child of their own to love. They go in search of a perfect egg and a safe place to keep the egg cozy and warm so that it can grow. Aunt Stacie has a perfect and special place: her tummy. The egg grows from the size of a bean, to an orange, to a football, and (after nine months) a beautiful little baby. Now the family is complete. Love is what inspired our special family. And our love grows more and more each day. The authors have done a nice job of simplifying the scientific process of surrogacy for a young audience, while making it as fun as looking for special treasure. While the digital images are not entirely scientific (the egg looks more like a chicken egg), they purposely create relatable and entertaining analogies so that the idea of surrogacy is easy to connect with and process. Xander's Story would be a great choice for any parents looking to introduce the concept of surrogacy while demonstrating the power of family and unconditional love. - The Children's Book Review (www.thechildrensbookreview.com) A beautifully written and illustrated story of two fathers' love for each other and the beautiful journey they took together to create their own special family...with a loving nod to all of the people that helped along the way. A love letter to their oldest son, Xander's Story helps to fill a much needed gap in children's literature, for LGBT parents who chose IVF as the pathway to build their families. A wonderful instrument to explain the different elements that make up the IVF journey, with visuals and verse that are both fun and appropriate for children just starting to understand the exquisite uniqueness of their families. Wow!! My children LOVED Xander's Story . The story cronicles a journey to parenthood for all readers, especially children. My son Nathaniel says this is his favorite book now. Such amazing pictures fill the story you can literally feel the Love. I highly recommend this book to everyone! A Beautifully written and illustrated book about a boy and the love of his parents. Highly recommend this book for anyone, but small children will especially love it. This is such an important story to tell, and Chris and Alex tell the story in a beautifully simple way. Xander's story is one that so many children will be able to identify with, and one that all children should read. Anyone wanting to share with their children that there are so many kinds of families in our world, will find this book a beautiful way to enlighten them. Xander's Story is an important, one of a kind book.
