The American University in Cairo Press, founded in 1960, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010. In half a century, the Press has grown from producing one or two books a year in the 1960s to its position today as the leading English-language publisher of the Middle East, with an annual publication program of up to 100 new books, and a backlist catalog offering of over 1,000 publications. Aleya Serour was the co-author of the first edition of the AUC Press's bestselling Cairo Practical Guide in 1975, and the editor of Naguib Mahfouz: Life's Wisdom from the Works of the Nobel Laureate (AUC Press, 2006). She retired recently after more than thirty years as a key member of the AUC Press team. Mark Linz has been director of the AUC Press from 1983 to 1986 and again since 1995.
