During the past three decades in the facility operations and assessment industry, Charles Joseph McClain has personally evaluated over a half billion square feet of facilities. Mr. McClain is a licensed architect whose consulting career since the 1980s has focused specifically on engineering and environmental due diligence throughout the United States. This reference book has been over 30 years in the making, developed in response to the need for a central resource for the most common commercial building red flags. Mr. McClain received a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and is a licensed architect in the State of California who has focused on the evaluation of existing buildings throughout his career. Mr. McClain has authored three books on the subject of facility assessments including Building Systems Evaluation Handbook (1991), which was one of the first books devoted to the subject of evaluating building systems; Property Condition Assessment Handbook (2013), which presented ways to design, perform and manage facility assessment services; and Zen and the Art of Facility Assessments (2014), which illustrated the practice of facility assessments from the perspective of Zen teachings.
