He then became part of the Manhattan Project which developed the first atom bomb, but left when it became clear that Nazi Germany was not going to be able to build its own bomb, and the US project could not be justified in terms of deterrence. After the war, Rotblat became a leading campaigner against nuclear weapons, especially through the Pugwash conference, which he founded. He received a Nobel Laureate for Peace in 1995. Robert A Hinde - trained as a biologist, he has specialised in ethology (the study of animal behaviour) and has also branched out into (human) psychology.
