Unfolding Grace: The Evolution of Godliness

Overview

Unfolding Grace: The Evolution of Godliness stands apart as both personal and pastoral-offering a discipleship-focused resource that draws deeply from Scripture, spiritual formation, and lived experience. Rather than presenting a static ""Christian living"" guide, this book unfolds a dynamic, three-part spiritual growth model: Finding God, Knowing God, and Experiencing God. These ""Evolutions"" form the backbone of a practical, grace-driven path toward spiritual maturity. What makes this book unique is its ability to bridge deep theological truth with everyday struggles of identity, worth, and calling-especially among Christians who feel ""stuck"" in their walk or uncertain about their value. Each chapter interweaves Scripture, practical insight, and stories from my own life as a pastor, husband, father, and flawed but faithful servant of Christ. It's not an autobiography-but it is an invitation to transformation. The goal is not simply inspiration but transformation: I want readers to walk away with a clearer understanding of who God is, who they are in Him, and what He has created them to do. This book helps the church rediscover that grace is not only the beginning of salvation, but also the fuel for a lifetime of growth and godliness.

Reviews

Michael Black's ""Unfolding Grace"" is his apology for his life of God's transformational grace. There are two meanings for the word apology. The first, and most common, meaning is to express sorrow. Far too many people are sorry about the Gospel of Jesus. The book Michael has written is about the second meaning of apology. That is to write a defense of his belief. Michael uses his own life's journey to defend and explain the truth of the workings of Jesus' gracious gift of salvation through faith and his subsequent growth to both know and experience the creator of the universe, Jesus. Mike, in the first section of the book, shares his struggles in proving to himself the reality of Jesus and his gift of salvation. Michael then shares both the Word of God and his own personal experiences through which the Spirit led him to more fully understand God's plan for his life. I found the personal stories to be most insightful. The Holy Spirit speaks to each of us through both Scripture and personal experience. As Michael shares his journey, the reader comes to see him or herself along the route of discovering God's perfect and individual plan for life. Give it a read to help you make a positive ""apology"" for your life. -Stephen Brewer, D. Min. ""Pastor Michael's story is Captivating and his application to church ministry today is compelling and helpful. I believe it will inspire and inform you in your walk with the Lord. I highly recommend this book for you""! -David W. Johnson Executive Director-Arizona Mission Network of Southern Baptists (2013-2025), and Current Director of the Doctoral Programs at Gateway Seminary
