The Virilio Dictionary

Overview

In Virilio's writings, meanings and interpretations are often difficult and ambiguous. Now, this dictionary explains every major Virilian subject and idea, showing how each functions within his philosophy. Among the concepts are entries on Accident, Body, Cinema, Dromology, and Eugenics, together with Virilian ideas at the forefront of his pioneering thinking in cultural and social theory such as Foreclosure, Grey Ecology, Polar Inertia, Logistics of Perception and the Overexposed City.

Reviews

"Finally all the facets of Paul Virilio's visionary work expertly analysed and summarised in one book. A truly amazing project which reads like science-fiction in the present tense.-- ""Sylvere Lotringer, Professor Emeritus, Columbia University, Founder, Semiotext(e)"" Paul Virilio is one of the most provocative and original thinkers of the contemporary era, and The Virilio Dictionary, expertly edited and introduced by John Armitage, provides a splendid over-view and presentation of the key concepts and ideas proliferating in Virilio's diverse and multifaceted works. The entries are clear and engaging, and provide an excellent access to one of the key thinkers of our time.-- ""Douglas Kellner, George F. Kneller Chair in the Philosophy of Education, UCLA"""
