OverviewThe Vietnamese Australians: Motherland Fatherland gives the readers an insight into Minh Hien and her family's journeys to Australia and Minh Hien and her husband's educational and teaching journeys, inspired by Baha'i and Buddhist teachings. It recounts the Vietnamese cultural activities, people, and places that have featured in Minh Hien's life. It also shows how the Vietnamese Australians celebrate peace through golf and the specific cultural symbolisms of the Vietnamese traditional dresses with embroideries and their associated colours. It documents for posterity what it was like to grow up during the war, to leave motherland in dangerous journeys to Australia in pursuit of higher education and then return to fatherland to assist others in their educational quest and to celebrate peace. The stories are told through numerous colourful photographs. Table of ContentsReviews""The book reflects on a period that was on the verge of disappearing forever: a time when people still lived modest and simple lives, surrounded by traditional customs, old markets, family restaurants, small houses, ageing buildings, quiet roads, and older forms of transport before modernisation swept much of it away. Nowadays, Việt Nam resembles many modern tourist destinations, with large buildings, new highways, heavy traffic, and an ever-growing variety of vehicles. Vietnamese food has also changed as ingredients are increasingly sourced from commercial suppliers and dishes are often adapted to suit international tastes. However, certain Vietnamese qualities remain unchanged through time: hospitality, calmness, politeness, tolerance and resilience.""
