The Steel Heiress

Overview

New York, 1899. Victoria Whitmore is the perfect daughter of one of the city's most powerful industrialists: the Worth gown, the Newport season, the carefully arranged future. She keeps journals, she crosses out when the sentences get too honest. Then an investigative journalist hands her his card on the terrace of her parents' house, and Victoria begins to look at the world she was born into with new eyes. What she finds there will cost her everything she has been given - and give her everything she was made for. Set against the opulence and hidden costs of Gilded Age New York, The Steel Heiress is the story of a woman who chooses truth over comfort, and of the love, the work, and the family she builds from that choice. Deeply romantic, morally serious, and impossible to put down.

Author Information

Time To Breathe Acknowledgement: This book was inspired by three songs my husband wrote. I remember sitting with him one day, a quiet morning with coffee, when he turned to me and said, ""I think these songs might be more than just music."" He didn't know it then, but in that simple statement, he had already started the story. Steve did in fact start writing the story. His melodies and lyrics weren't just tunes; the were poetic lyrics. A book is never the work of one person alone. Therefore to my darling Steve, thank you for beginning this story and having the faith in me to see it through to the end of what I call our book! Finally, to you, the reader, thank you for picking up this book. I hope within these pages you find a story that resonates and perhaps, just for a moment, a quiet place to breathe.
