Excerpt from The Remains of the Rev. James Marsh, D. D. Late President, and Professor of Moral and Intellectual Philosophy, in the University of Vermont: With a Memoir of His Life As to my own share in the work here presented to the public, I should be disposed to say nothing, were it not proper for me to give some account of the manner in which I have endeavored to dis charge a delicate office of friendship. The late Dr. Marsh, near the close of his life, committed his papers to my care, with the request, that I would select from them such as I might think suitable, and cause them to be published. He hoped they might be not without use to the World; at least, that they would prove acceptable to his friends, and perhaps a source of some little benefit to his children. A few of these writings were already designed for the press by himself; but none of them had, as yet, undergone that te vision and that careful correction, which doubtless he would have chosen to bestow on them, had his life and health been spared.
