The One Health Concept in Asian Contexts

Overview

This book provides a comprehensive exploration of global health challenges through the integrated One Health approach, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. By focusing on Asia's specific challenges, such as zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and climate change impacts, it offers insights and practical solutions tailored to the region's diverse landscapes. The chapters cover a range of critical topics, including global health governance and the role of international health regulations in preventing and responding to crises. The epidemiology of zoonotic diseases and environmental drivers of disease transmission are examined, alongside strategies to mitigate antimicrobial resistance. The book also discusses the impact of climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security on public health, linking them to emerging infectious diseases. Real-world case studies illustrate the application of One Health strategies in addressing tropical diseases and strengthening public health interventions. Occupational health and safety is also examined through a One Health perspective, emphasizing comprehensive worker protection and acknowledging that zoonotic risks extend beyond traditionally animal-related professions. This book is an invaluable resource for researchers, students, and professionals in public health, veterinary sciences, environmental studies, and policymaking. It offers a multidisciplinary perspective on complex health challenges, making it essential for anyone involved in health policy, research, or community leadership. By integrating evidence-based strategies and diverse disciplinary perspectives, ""One Health in the Asian Context"" equips readers with the knowledge and tools needed to address pressing health issues effectively.
