OverviewGilbert is the titular Memory Taker and he is embarking on his first ever solo mission to relieve those with dark, impure memories of their burdens before they can ascend. He should be completely invested in his chosen path, but one distraction exists: Arianna. She's his boss' daughter and should be completely untouchable, but she draws Gilbert in with her beauty, charm, and magic. Despite this, the Memory Taker has a job to do, and will have to try to do it, no matter what. Description and imagery seem to be instrumental to Weaver's writing style which makes for a very gripping read that pulls you in deeper with every turn of the page. Table of ContentsReviewsKaren Weaver is an expert crafter (weaver?) of a plot with many twists, lots of turns, and the unexpected lurking around every corner. Her writing style is eloquent without becoming overly wordy, and paints a beautiful and lyrical picture, all while maintaining the action of the scenes. Description and imagery seem to be instrumental to Weaver's writing style which makes for a very gripping read that pulls you in deeper with every turn of the page. Brava! The Memory Taker is part of a series, but I didn't have any trouble engaging with this, the third book. There is a persistent vagueness surrounding the characters that creates a surreal sort of balance between fiction and reality, making you question what is real. There was also almost a spiritual or religious feeling and tone to the book, which made everything feel somehow both stranger and a bit deeper than it would have been without that quality. I hope that I will get to read more from Karen Weaver as her style is beautiful and her stories are quite complex.
