OverviewJacob had 12 sons, one of whom was Joseph. His father adored him more than the others and bestowed upon him a colourful cloak. His brothers despised him and sold him into slavery. He was taken to Egypt and worked as a steward for Potiphar, one of the Pharaoh's officials. The story of Joseph, the son of Jacob who was known as Israel, is a vivid illustration of the great truth that 'all things work together for the good of [those] who love God.' (See also Romans 8:28.) Joseph always seemed to do the right thing, but more importantly, he always seemed to do it for the right reason. In the Book of Genesis, Joseph is Jacob's eleventh son and Rachel's first son, and he is known as Yossef ben-Yaakov in the Hebrew Bible.
