Author Information

Chief Ron Graner's professional career in the fire service has spanned more than 40 years, starting as a high school volunteer in a small village fire department and rising to chief officer ranks in a large Class 1 city department. Chief Graner served as the career fire chief in one combination and two full career departments. He strongly believes that neither the structure of the department nor the receipt, or lack, of a paycheck should limit or define the need for professionalism in the fire service. He has degrees in business, fire science and fire service administration, plus extensive training and experience in all aspects of the fire service and emergency management. Currently a Public Safety Consultant and Peer Assessor for the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, he has written this book to share his knowledge and expertise.
