It explores the female body in art, in pregnancy and motherhood, in sexuality and in the life-cycle, and finally the female body as scene of crime. As a result this book covers aspects of female creativity in its many aspects, both productive and generative and where there are difficulties or impediments. The psychoanalysts writing for this book have made an enormous contribution in the past and this book therefore aims to stimulate, challenge and provoke further discussion and new advances in this field.

Ingrid Moeslein-Teising is a psychoanalyst of the German Psychoanalytic Association (DPV /IPA), group analyst (DAGG), a doctor in psychosomatic medicine working in private practice and a senior consultant in an inpatient psychosomatic clinic (Klinik am Hainberg, Bad Hersfeld). She teaches at the Alexander-Mitscherlich-Institute, Kassel. Her scientific interests, publications and presentations focus on the woman in psychoanalysis - her sexuality, her body, her history. Her contribution to the panel 'Woman and Psychoanalysis in Germany', at the 45th IPA Congress Berlin 2007, outlined 'The destruction of psychoanalytical emancipation: the expulsion of women psychoanalysts under National Socialism.' Her activities for COWAP include workshops on COWAP topics within DPV conferences as well as contributions to European COWAP conferences. In 2009 she became a committee member for Germany in the COWAP Committee on Women and Psychoanalysis. Frances Thomson Salo is a Member of the British Psychoanalytic Society as a child and adult psychoanalyst and is an Associate Professor of University of Melbourne. She was appointed Overall Chair of the IPA Committee of Women in Psychoanalysis by Charles Hanly in 2009. She is immediate past President of the Australian Psychoanalytical Association and a Training Analyst in private practice. She is a Consultant Infant Mental Health clinician in the Royal Women's Hospital Centre, Melbourne; Associate researcher for the Murdoch Children's Research Institute; and on the teaching faculty for the University of Melbourne Graduate Diploma/Masters in Infant and Parent Mental Health. She has published in the fields of child psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and infant mental health.
