OverviewThe appeal of the English country house is immeasurable, yet the interior decoration the drawing room--the most important room of a house, where English tradition is experienced at its finest--has rarely been the subject of a book. People world-wide are drawn to traditional English culture, as evidenced by the mega-hit Downton Abbey, and the drawing room demonstrates the epitome of English culture and decoration. This book will be an essential reference and a source of inspiration for interior designers, traditional architects, homeowners, and Anglophiles. This book examines the great drawing rooms from the sixteenth century to the present day, offering unprecedented access to England's finest houses. Through these exquisitely decorated rooms--many still in private hands--readers experience the best of English decoration and the work of such legends as David Hicks, Nancy Lancaster, John Fowler, and David Mlinaric.
