Overview

Two women, of different generations, countries and cultures; they have one thing in common - a desire to improve their lives. Lidia, a healer, and novice within the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria, decides to become a sculptress - using waste material for her art. Living in Cuba in 2007, under the shadow of an economic embargo, requires a creative approach when it comes to improving your finances. Jenny - a young drama teacher - living near London, finds herself booking a trip to Cuba after she meets a Cuban musician on a train. She hopes that this visit will bring some adventure and excitement into her life. When Lidia and Jenny meet on the streets of Havana, it is as though fate has played a hand. It's Jenny that gives Lidia the subject for her art - musical instruments. From Lidia, Jenny gains a privileged insight into Cuba and its people; and this inspires her to make changes when she returns home. The Double Bass, gives you a real taste of Cuba. Life is hard, but the resourcefulness and humour of the Cuban people invariably makes things a little better.
