The Blue Highways of My Soul -for Lily-

Overview

A chance meeting reunites two childhood friends who have been estranged for twenty years after a devastating quarrel over a woman. Andy lives a modest, unremarkable life; Joey is unemployed and deeply addicted. One evening, Joey plays Andy the recordings of his musical magnum opus- an evening that ends in tragedy when an accidental overdose administered by Andy cuts Joey's life short. Andy leaves with the music and the lyrics and releases them under his own name. The songs resonate across the world, touching a raw and universal nerve. Swept up in sudden fame and crushed by guilt, Andy flees first to Paris and then to Mexico, where he becomes entangled in a murder. Wounded and desperate, he escapes into a harsh and unforgiving wilderness, without money, food, or a passport. Along the way, he encounters the unexpected kindness of strangers, forcing him to confront the life he has lived and the man he has become. His journey draws him into the kidnapping of the daughter of a notorious drug lord. Can he save both her life and his own, and return to the life he once knew? Or does this perilous path lead him toward an entirely different future?
