She spent her first decade on a remote mountain top in Alaska, and she loved it! Cutting graduated Phi Beta Kappa, majoring in Fine and Performing Arts, and later earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree. She is now a practicing artist in Colorado. Writing Mid-Century Pioneers involved researching all of her mother's letters written to her own Mamasan in Hawaii while the couple pioneered in Sleeping Moose, as well as combing through all of the family photograph albums from that time. Of course, the author's biggest source of material comes directly from the stories her mother used to tell her about the road, the weather, and the neighbors on Round Top Mountain.
