Soul Drive: Shifting Gears

Overview

Against all odds, Hiro survived the battle at the Canadian Embassy. Now he's a marked man. With the city sealed off and government forces hunting him down, Hiro has nowhere to run and no one to turn to. Kimiko has disappeared. Nori is focused on fixing his Mach. Returning to his uncle isn't an option. The only person Hiro can count on is Yutaka. Yutaka's plan is simple: escape, go underground, and start over in the Japanese countryside. But the world won't let Hiro vanish so easily. This novel explores themes of PTSD, war and survival. The tone shifts from the first installment to focus on consequences. The story highlights what happens when you betray your country, how taking a life (even to save others) can affect your mental health and how the world reacts out of fear when they learn about something they don't quite understand. Hiro is put to the test as he attempts to survive both the Canadian and Japanese governments hunting him. He also reckons with the consequences of taking a life and the fallout that comes with it. All while the UN secretly creates a task force for the sole goal of finding Mach pilots and ending the Mach program. This story sets the stage for a large battle looming on the horizon, and it is the second novel in a planned set of five. It blends science fiction, spy thriller, and war genres to create its own dystopian universe in the wake of the third nuclear world war.
