Sons of Sparta

Overview

Hop on an (imaginary) plane and discover the Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis Mysteries-""thoughtful police procedurals set in picturesque but not untroubled Greek locales"" (The New York Times), pairing intriguing characters and beautiful settings with twisty and cunning crimes. ""Siger is more than a master storyteller; he's a historian and diarist for modern Greece"" NEW YORK JOURNAL OF BOOKS ""International police procedural writing at its best"" BOOKLIST STARRED REVIEW ""Will appeal to fans of Donna Leon and Louise Penny"" PUBLISHERS WEEKLY ""International crime fans need to be reading this consistently strong series"" BOOKLIST ""Siger is a wonderful storyteller whose love of Greece is infectious"" DEADLY PLEASURES MAGAZINE _______________________ After a murder close to home, Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis and his right-hand man face unexpected enemies in rural Greece-think The Godfather as a descendant of the Spartan 300! Detective Yiannis Kouros of Greece's Special Crimes Division is summoned by his uncle to come to the Mani-a region at the tip of the mountainous Peloponnese, peopled with families who live by their own code of honor, have a history of endless blood feuds, and are rumored to be descendants of ancient Sparta. Kouros' uncle once headed the Mani's most significant criminal enterprise, and he fears his loyalty to his boss, Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis, is about to be tested. But instead, Kouros learns the family is about to become rich through the sale of its property-until his uncle is killed, and so too the deal. Acting swiftly to head off a new cycle of violence, Kouros solves the murder-or so it seems. But back in Athens, Kaldis' probe into deeply entrenched government corruption leads straight back to the Mani. Both detectives must confront a host of unexpected twists, unanticipated players, unanswered questions-and people yet to die. With its gorgeous Greek locations, engaging characters, and fast-paced plotting, this critically acclaimed international crime series is an excellent pick for fans of DONNA LEON, LOUISE PENNY, MARTIN WALKER, and DAVID HEWSON. Find out why The New York Times named Jeffrey Siger as Greece's thriller novelist of record today! Praise for SONS OF SPARTA: ""Perfectly plotted . . . Siger paints travelogue-worthy pictures of a breathtakingly beautiful-if politically corrupt-Greece"" Publishers Weekly Starred Review ""Filled with local color, action, and humor, this story will give readers a taste of modern Greek culture and its ancient roots"" Booklist ""Offers a lively, gritty plot, an abundance of local color and two righteous heroes"" Kirkus Reviews ""Loaded with twists and turns and red herrings that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next"" Victor G., 5* Goodreads review ""A fascinating tale"" Charlotte M., 5* Goodreads review THE CHIEF INSPECTOR ANDREAS KALDIS MYSTERIES: 1. Author Information

Jeffrey Siger is an American living on the Aegean Greek island of Mykonos. A former Wall Street lawyer, he gave up his career as a name partner in his own New York City law firm to write the international bestselling, award-recognized Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis series. The New York Times has named him as Greece's thriller novelist of record, and the Greek government selected him as the only American author writing novels that serve as a guide to Greece. He's also served as Chair of the National Board of Bouchercon, America's largest mystery convention, and as Adjunct Professor of English at Washington & Jefferson College, teaching mystery writing.
