Overview

An alternative history novel from the author of REICH OF RENEGADES. It is the summer of 1953. Thirteen years after her defeat at Dunkirk, Britain has signed a new alliance with America to face off against Nazi Germany in a tense Cold War fuelled by atomic weapons. Germany won the last war, but Hitler is losing the peace. The Nazis control the European continent only through brutal draconian measures. Millions of foreign slave workers imprisoned in German cities are threatening to rebel against their Aryan masters. The anti-Nazi General Claus von Stauffenberg has fled to Britain to negotiate on behalf of the Free Germany Movement. However, the SS soon learn of this secret organisation and mobilise a hit team to assassinate the rogue general. It includes Heinrich Muller, a disillusioned German officer with conflicting loyalties, and Edward Preston, a young Englishman who believes his family abandoned him during their audacious escape from the Nazi colony of Ostland. This clandestine mission brings the Preston family back together after five long years of separation and presents Muller with a chance at personal redemption, but the stakes are much higher than any of the participants could imagine. If the conspirators succeed, the people of Europe will have an opportunity for peace after more than a decade of occupation and oppression...but, if they fail, the entire world risks being plunged into a new war of unprecedented ferocity.
