Overview

This book brings together the most compelling human psychology and communications research into a no-nonsense, practical framework and easy-to-understand model you can apply immediately. It shows you exactly how to have the right conversations, in the right way, at the right time. Yet Savvy Conversations is so much more than how to handle difficult conversations. It's about creating workplaces and relationships that get the best from people and help people to be their best selves. It's about creating organisational cultures that are highly successful, thriving and positive places to be, one savvy conversation at a time. Some conversations are hard. Some people are difficult. Having the right knowledge and practical understanding to have the conversations you want or need to have, even when that may be a difficult discussion, is a vital skill. Conversations are how we connect with others, how we learn, how we share information, how we inspire others and how we deliver results. This book will help you to: Lead high-performing teams made up of talented individuals who work collaboratively for the greater good. Through better day-to-day conversations you can avoid stressful conflict and give high-quality feedback that's gratefully received. You can build an entire workforce that values one-to-ones and performance reviews because they are meaningful, supportive, developmental and motivational. In other words, through day-to-day savvy conversations you can get the results you need and at the same time build and maintain positive working relationships.

Reviews

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this fantastic book. I love Sarah's writing style and I have found it easy to read and understand. I've recently had to have some difficult conversations both internally at work and with some of our clients. Each time I have had the STREETCREDS Framework in mind and all the conversations have gone well and have had successful outcomes for all parties. I would highly recommend taking the time to read through the book and to put Sarah's knowledge, models and experience into practice. Martin Grady Sarah Harvey has written a book that is a real workplace gem. In the fast paced and often stressful world of communication overload, Sarah has shown us innovative skills and tools so that workplace issues and differences can be solved amicably at the right time and in the right way for employers and employees alike. Savvy Conversations is based on robust research and psychological theories and models which will ensure a culture free from psychological pitfalls. The use of Transactional Analysis and innovative communicative models and tools ensure we really understand how to manage people who may view things from a different perspective. We are introduced to key relational methods and processes to aid even the most challenging of conversations. This is a must-read book for leaders in both the public and private sectors who are looking to ensure harmony and conflict-free working environments. Jackie Arnold Sarah Harvey stands for making things better in work and life through more deliberate conversations. Not an easy feat, yet through Savvy Conversations, Sarah has her own craftful way to approach how we communicate, engage, influence, help and guide others. If you're feeling like you don't control the outcomes of enough of the conversations in your work and life, then this book will instantly give you acquired skill, confidence and tactics that tip that balance towards you. Perry Timms A straightforward, easy to understand and compelling exploration of what it means to have effective conversations. It's packed with information, challenging questions and useful tips. Pennies were dropping for me all the way through. Everyone needs to read this. Janet Webb
