During the thirty-seven years of Miss Porter's editorship, Poet Lore attained and firmly held a unique, recognized, and respected position. After her retirement in 1927, subsequent Editors have tried to maintain the high standard she had established. In addition to her task Of editing Poet Lore, her studies and editing Of Shakespeare were extensive and Of a high order of excellence.
