Smith and her father Norm Smith hoped for many years that they would someday be able to collaborate on writing and illustrating a children's book together. Throughout his life, Norm displayed an exceptional talent with drawing and painting in a variety of mediums and earned a great deal of praise and countless awards for his work as an artist. L.M. began writing poetry and short stories when she was only a child and in the last few years has published several full-length novels for adults and teens, as well as a compilation of poetry from her childhood. Unfortunately their dream of combining their talents was never able to be realized and Norm passed away quite suddenly in the summer of 2013 due to cancer. His remarkable passion for adventure and their incomparable bond as father and daughter inspired her to create this book and hopefully many more to come. His brief, though tragic, battle with the terrible disease further inspired her to donate all proceeds from this book to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
