Overview

Piggy Piglet was wriggling in his sleep. He wriggled, and he jiggled, and he rolled on to something very prickly. Owww!!! Piggy Piglet needs help from the farmyard animals because whatever it is that he has sat on is very prickly and it hurts. But when his brothers and sisters try to BOUNCE it off it prickles them too – OWW! OINK! OINK! When Dog tries to WACK it off it prickles his tail. – OWW! WOOF! When Cat tries to CLAW it off it prickles her paw – OWW! MEOW! It doesn't seem as though anyone will be able to help Piggy Piglet – that is, until then most unlikely, and unhelpful animal on the farm appears looking for a tasty breakfast! Age 18 months – 4 years

Reviews

Praise for 'Oww': 'Rosen's use of rhythm and repetition and the cumulative story-style will ensure even the youngest reader can engage with the text. The illustrations are charming and full of fun, each animal expressively drawn.' Books for Keeps Praise for 'Snore!': 'Ideal for bedtime entertainment. Langley's illustrations are delightful and larger than life.' The Guardian 'From start to finish this book bristles with energy and humour, while the illustrations are just delightful.' Our Baby 'This superb book is packed with sounds and fun.' Mother and Baby

Fans of Snore! (2001) will welcome this return to the same barnyard full of helpful animals. It seems that Piggy Piglet has snagged a thorny bit of thistle in his tail, and not only is he unable to dislodge it, everyone else who tries, from clever Cat to Sheep and Cow, is left with smarting paws, hooves or other extremities. The appealing livestock in Langley's smoothly drawn rural scenes exude sympathy for poor Piggy Piglet and readers will too-until, at last, along comes ever-hungry Donkey, who despite universal skepticism bends down without ado and proceeds to eat the offending plant. Off trot the relieved Piggy Piglet and everyone else, to chow down likewise at the feeding trough. A comic tale, with several views of piglets flying through the air and a mild lesson about never refusing help. (Picture book. 5-7) (Kirkus Reviews)
