Overview

The Ottoman Empire was ruled by the Ottomans between 1453 and 1517. The empire was largely Muslim, but there were some ethnic groups that were more tolerant than others. The Eunuchs were divided along racial lines and held significant power within the royal court. They were responsible for running the harem and were involved in almost everything that happened in the imperial palace.
