Overview

This delightful Christmas story is in the ilk of It's a Wonderful Life. Taking place over the weekend following Thanksgiving, it involves a young family in Ohio. Enjoy the twist and turns as they endure a blizzard, secrets, church duties, a special dinner, a terminal illness, irate parents, cultural acceptance and religious inclusion. But the main theme is a special relationship between a father and his daughter. For Destiny, everything in life is new. And she can't sit still for not understanding all that come into her young life. She has a mine like a sponge, which amazes her father. This is about the true meaning and purpose of Christmas and why it is celebrate by a third of the world's population; including other cultures which celebrate some form of Christmas, and still other societies that have celebrations at this same time. The story reveals half the world observes a religious event honoring God in some form at this time of the year. Rather than teaching children about Santa bringing gifts to every child, they should be telling them the truth; which is, we give gifts to our children in celebration of what God has giving to us, -- The Greatest Gift ever given. Through our hard work we are able to purchase the gifts we give at Christmas. Why tell such a big lie to children and give the credit to this imaginary figure. We've earned that credit. This story ends with a lesson for the entire world. Christmas is one of the greatest tools we have to bring the world together, if we include all peoples, everywhere.

Author Information

Born May 27, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio, I attended public schools and graduated in 1969 from Central High. That summer I proposed to Eva Moore and we married on December 5 of that year. In 1970 I joined the Navy and had two tours in Viet Nam and another in support of that war and the Yom Kippur War, traveling as far westward as Iran and the Seychelles. In 1971 we gave birth to my son, also named Larry. When my hitch was up, I returned to Ohio, working in Columbus, Marietta, and Parkersburg, W.Va. After twelve years as a civilian, I joined the Naval Reserves and loved it. Near the end of this stint, I saw a message that the Navy was seeking administrative personnel on active duty to convert to the Legalmen rating. This was the work that I enjoyed the most, so I applied and became the only reservist to be accepted into the program. In Legal school I acquired an extreme sinus problem which required surgery and had to drop out. It was worked out that I would remain on active service awaiting orders to the fleet. Those orders arrived in time for me to join Desert Storm/Desert Shield, in a helicopter squadron onboard the USS NIMITZ for another two tours. After that I wanted to stay in but the Navy started personnel cut-backs and a reservist on active duty was an easy cut. Stationed in San Diego, the day after I was released, I joined the California Army National Guard. Shortly after joining I got a job with a team doing support work for the U. S. Border Patrol. In addition to that I started a business; a commercial cleaning franchise. But after a few years and due to health reasons, I sold the business and semi-retired. After another two years I realized I was missing something great. I was now a grandfather of three back in Columbus. So, I decided to return to play with the grandchildren and for five years I didn't do much else. But getting restless, I took a job with the federal government for the next five years. Upon reaching the age of sixty-two I decided to retire again. Then one night as I lay awake in my bed, the idea of this story came to me. I truly believe that, not only was I inspired by, but actually given this story to write, by God.
