Overview

A playful, warm and funny story following a boy with a wild imagination and his lively family, from exciting creative duo: Swapna Haddow and Dapo Adeola. Shhh. Beware. My dad is a grizzly bear. In this family, it's just possible that Dad is a grizzly bear . . . He has fuzzy fur, enormous paws and loves the outdoors. He sleeps a lot even in the cinema and when he's awake, he's always hungry, usually eating up all the honey. what else could Dad be? But sometimes, when it's scary at night, a lovely big bear hug is just what is needed. A hilarious debut picture book written by Swapna Haddow author of the Dave Pigeon series and illustrated by the brilliantly talented Dapo Adeola author of Look Up!

My top pick for Father's Day is this big-hearted look at family life, seen through the eyes of a little boy with a big imagination, replete with humour and warmth, and playful, energetic art from rising star Adeola. * Bookseller, editor's choice * With some lovely words and beautiful illustrations, the book carries the reader away on adventures, camping under the stars and looking for bears in the forest. Meanwhile, dads everywhere will sympathise with the father and his scratchy beard. -- Roddy Brooks * Independent *

Swapna Haddow trained as a doctor, but after discovering she didn't like blood, decided on a career change and wrote her first book Dave Pigeon: How to Deal With Bad Cats and Keep (most of) Your Feathers, which won the Greenhouse Funny Prize. Swapna now lives in New Zealand with her husband, their son and their dog. You can usually find Swapna writing, reading or eating Jaffa Cakes. Sometimes you might find her doing all three at the same time. Dapo Adeola is a young illustrator and character designer who is new to the picture book world. His first book, Look Up! was written by Nathan Bryon and published by Puffin in June 2019 to great acclaim. Born in Britain and of Nigerian heritage, Dapo's work tends to revolve around creating characters and imagery that challenge gender norms and equality politics in a fun and upbeat manner. An avid believer in the importance of equal representation in the creative arts, Dapo runs illustration and character design based workshops with children in and out of schools to help highlight the possibilities of a career in illustration to inner city children of various ethnicities. Dapo lives in London.
