OverviewMimi Lou gets a new Hairdo, Celebrating Natural Curls is a rhyming book about a little girl with wild, naturally curly hair: She hates having her hair brushed. Every day it's a battle with her mom to brush her hair. One day her mom surprises her, taking her ""to a magical place called a beauty shop."". Where she learns hair care tips for maintaining her natural curls. Ultimately Mimi decides her curls are a gift as she leaves the beauty shop with a pretty pink bow and a skip in her step. The book has an easy reading rhythm and flow. It's cute & fun and has factual hair care tips that work to care for curly hair. This would be a great gift for any occasion. As a girl who grew up with curly hair, I know how beneficial guidance and ideas would have been. My mom had straight hair and no clue how to manage the hair on my head. She simplified life by cutting it as short as my brother (who also had curly hair). Kids tease over anything. I didn't learn to embrace or like my curls until a young adult. To grow up self-conscious, or with low self-esteem over something so silly and common when we can teach our kids solutions and give them tools to ease their struggles.
