When I was browsing through all that Maupin House had to offer, I really was thinking in my head that I really wanted to find some new creative ideas for making math FUN. Cheeky is obviously not even in Kindergarten yet, but he loves hands on learning and counting, and my same ol' projects just weren't cutting it anymore...I needed fresh ideas! The Bag Ladies certainly delivered everything I was looking for! Each project idea is set up with a photograph, detailed supply list and a step-by-step instruction of how to create each manipulative. An added bonus to EACH project lesson plan is an extensions section where they have offered up ideas on how you can expand on the idea! LOVE it! Another fantastic feature to each project is that they have included the NCTM Standards used in the manipulative! I love this feature because if I am wanting to work on a certain skill, it has the information readily available for me to see what will be covered with that project idea! Not only are the project ideas fantastic for a HUGE range of ages, the Bag Ladies have gone ABOVE and beyond and even included a Suggested Literature list towards the front of the book. They listed a book to coordinate with each project! There are project ideas for math games, creating fun manipulatives (no more expensive counting bears or other items here!) AND they have included all of the black line pattern sheets that you will need for graphs, diagrams and more that coordinate with each of the manipulatives! The book has a wide range of project ideas for ages K-5th, so I know that this book will remain in our classroom for years to come and will get a TON of use! -Gabby, The Work of Childhood blog, www.workofchildhood.com (December 2009)-- The Work of Childhood blog, www.workofchildhood.com
