Il se souvient d'être resté chez sa grand-tante lorsqu'il était enfant après la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. A cette époque, il n'y avait ni eau courante ni électricité. Chaque matin, c'était à lui de puiser de l'eau fraîche du puits. Le soir, on avait une lampe à huile pour voir.      (The author is a retired doctor. He is a quarter French and has visited France for over three-quarters of a century. He remembers staying with his great-aunt after World War II. At that time there was no running water nor electricity. It was his job to draw fresh water from the well each morning. In the evening any light was provided by oil lamp.)
