Overview

KVKA bibliography of outstanding achievements.Prosperity during times of distress is uncommon. Here's a lady who achieved all of that, plus more. Born into near poverty, Vera shows how it can be done. Her Christian beliefs and her ability to achieve success with very limited resources shows her strength of character. This project has taken me several years to complete. I have travelled all over the world, virtually, seeking information so that I am able to present as accurate a story as possible about the life and times of my mother, Katherine Vera Kentish, who was known by everyone as Vera. Her ancestors lived for many years in France and there has been some conjecture about the name which was used during those times. I have elected to use the family name which pops up frequently during my research. The family of four arrived in Western Australia during 1909 and settled close to the township of Woodanilling. Later moving to the district of Mean Mahn and later still to near the township of Badgebup. The locations are all close to the township of Katanning in Western Australia. Vera was the first of the children to be born in Australia, closely followed by a further five children. So many mouths to feed. The reader will understand the extremely trying and difficult times in which she lived as a child and teenager. Then through the tough times of the depression and onto the difficult times during the Second World War. Provisions were very scarce during these times and many sacrifices were made. Her Christian beliefs helped her through those times and she prospered.Vera was my Mum and was such a gentle Christian lady and willing to do so much for her loved ones. She enjoyed the time that she could spend with her sisters and brothers and wished that those times could have been more frequent. Her work in the Church, mostly as a Sunday school teacher was respected by her students who gained an insight to the teachings of the Bible. She learnt so much from Pop Gomm and spent almost a lifetime passing this on to so many others. The Country Women's Association played a large part in her life from early in the nineteen fifties. Our father was a dominant figure in the family but despite any difficulties that we could see as her children, She always rose above any situation and dealt with any problems head on with a loving and Christian attitude. This book is dedicated to her and her life.
