Overview

When a hurricane threatens to harm the underwater homes of the merpeople, it is up to India Finch, a part-human/part-mermaid teenager, to warn her ocean friends. The mer decide to seek calmer waters, and as they travel, they are attacked by a giant squid, with India at the center of harm's way. Gravely injured, India depends on the merfolks' willingness to risk their own safety to get her ashore where her injuries can be treated. Will the prejudice many mer hold against humans leave India at the end of her journey? Julie's novels consider themes of identity and belonging, often with a healthy dose of fantasy and magic. She lives with her family in Minnesota. Kirbi Fagan is a vintage-inspired artist living in the Detroit, Michigan, area. She is an award-winning illustrator who specializes in creating art for young reaers. Her work is known for magical themes, vintage textures, bright colors, and powerful characterization. She received her bachelor's degree in illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design. Kirbi lives by two words: ""Spread joy."" She is known to say, ""I'm in it with my whole heart."" When not illustrating, Kirbi enjoys writing stories, spending time with her family, and rollerblading with her dog, Sophie."
