He worked as a carpenter and stonemason and studied German Language and Literature. He now lives in Wilhelmshorst near Berlin. His work has won him a number of prizes in the German-speaking world, chief among them the Dresden Poetry Prize (Dresdner Lyrikpreis), the Kranichstein Literature Prize and the Anna Seghers prize.
