During the story, one sees the characters interact in a variety of settings, and through those interactions a firm foundation of love and trust is developed. Each has something to offer to the other socially and emotionally. Positive relationships between grandparents and grandchildren are proven to be essential. The author, Fay Klingler, helps one see that a grandparent can help a distraught tween overcome challenges faced at school by just being available to listen, then through encouragement, and finally by following up and not dismissing her granddaughter's feelings. Then when the grandmother faces challenges of her own, Lu, the granddaughter, takes it upon herself to lift her grandmother in a way no other person could. This is a wonderful book for all ages, early elementary to the most experienced grandparent. -Teresa Louw, Fifth Grade Teacher, Highland, Utah A thoughtful look at how a grandmother passes on wisdom and strength to a young girl who is learning about life. The message will speak to girls while the beautiful illustrations will draw in parents and grandparents. She has a rich relationship with her grandmother. They work together, and her grandmother is an inventive source of fun. The artwork is sogood! Vivid watercolor portraits illustrate the bond between grandmother and grandchild. The story is a circle. In the beginning you see the love and care that Grandma nurtures Lu, and then when Grandma needs her, the character and love that was so generously given to Lu comes back in full to Grandma. This book is as timeless as Love You Forever or Sammy and the Robots. I love to read and use the library heavily, but this is a book I will buy for our own family and give as a gift because its story of empathy and family love is so awesome. Congratulations Mrs. Klingler on a wonderful addition to the canon of excellent family books! -Kerry Ann Kenney, Grade School A delightful story of two generations coming together to help remind each other of the importance of self-worth. Although our life situations may be different in each season of our lives, the answer of knowing who you are and your worth is the same. Believing in yourself is important at any age! This story does a wonderful job of teaching its readers to look for the positive things in a situation instead of focusing on the struggle. -Carol Sparks, Elementary School Teacher, Highland, Utah Author InformationFay A.
