OverviewOne of the most challenging and engaging artists emerging today, Italian sculptor Giuseppe Gabellone laboriously builds structures - some sleek and minimal, others biomorphic and earthy - frequently destroying them soon after he takes a photograph. The resulting images raise questions about our associations with documentary photography and with ideas of presence and absence. This catalogue is published in conjunction with the first exhibition in the US of Gabellone's work, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago (MCA). With an essay by the Senior Curator, Francesco Bonami, vivid colour reproductions of Gabellone's art and supplementary information about his career, it serves as a guide to his body of work to date.
