Overview

"Fire & the Feminine: Myths Animated in Clay Following the wave of the Women's Movement, ""Fire"" is a significant contribution to our understanding of how with its writers and artists Carol Witten's creativity was unleashed. Fueled by a passion to ""squeeze life into clay,"" this artist discusses those who stirred her imagination from the bold and colorful characters of Disney to the studied hand of Degas. She also reveals the relationship between life and the work of an artist. ""Fire's"" greatest gift is the signature female-figures Witten created; stoneware sculptures of Goddesses from mythology, the daily news and pop culture. Each is as animated and untamed as the woman who created them. It is Witten's passion and dedication to clay that makes this book a treasure."
