He began writing stories in elementary school and wrote for his high school newspaper. David went on to study journalism in college and spent many years working as a freelance writer. Although becoming a teacher in 2013, David never strayed far from writing. In 2019, he combined his love of children with his love of writing by self-publishing his first children's picture book, Ferdinand's Fear of Flying, which the native Ohioan wrote while teaching in Shanghai, China. The story centers on themes of courage, self-confidence and overcoming fears, and features magnificent pictures by Filipino artist, Ronaldo Florendo.
