Born in Columbus, Ohio, he has lived much of his life abroad, as a voluntary exile. He won a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant to write on Pancho Villa and his prizes include the Ruby Lloyd Apsey Award and Finalist for the Robert Gover Competition.
