EVERYONE'S SHADOWI have an unshakeable shadow, but not the one in which you think! I see it in the eye of my mind, not constant, yet before me when I blink! I have tried to leave its ghostly presence, to release myself from the existence of this thing. I sometimes find myself walking faster, cutting alleys, slipping corners... anything! The shadow has been my companion for years, keeping me company from dusk till dawn alike. I often see the outline of my bodiless visitor, its image burning in my heart through the night! It will be with you forever, the enemy taunted, upon this you always may depend! It matters not what God has said to you! This companion remains with you till the end! How can I be free from my tormentor? How can I beat him at his own game? All my life the shadow has been before me; can there be no hope? Will my life ever change? Over time my shadow and I became familiar; it seldom speaks, but its words still sting the same! All you need know of me is what I tell you. I'm known by shame, but guilt is my favorite name! Guilt, it said, was a favorite alias, a constant reminder of life's surreal and perverse! With those words ringing in my heart's ear, I believed I would never be free my curse! Then, just when I was ready to throw in the towel, just when I was ready to quit the game, I received a visit from the One and Only peace bearer, The One with power to defeat my shadow at its game! With all my vain efforts finally exhausted, and all my futile power plays at an end, I succumbed to the persuasion of the righteous One; The One who said He would be an eternal friend! He spoke to my shadow in a whisper, never raising His voice in a futile tone! Then I saw the shadow quiver and disappear from before me. In that single instant, it vanished and was gone! Who are You, stranger? Truly, I must thank You. I know my life will never be the same! Please tell me who You are that I might repay You! You can't, He said, but... JESUS is the name!
