She was a previous presenter at the Frostburg State University's Spring Festival of Children's Literature. She also received awards and recognition in the San Francisco Book Festival, the New England Book Festival, and the Paris Book Festival. She has a diverse background which includes producing educational media and teaching graduate courses for Carnegie Mellon University. She has a BS in Psychology from Georgetown University and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.Denise goes dog sledding in the Alaskan bush every year to help rehome retired Alaskan sled dogs. Her travels inspire her creativity.Denise lives in Virginia with her retired sled dogs. Her dogs often join her on author visits at schools, libraries, and special events.
