OverviewThis is a critical bibliography of Adam Smith. It takes as its starting point the Vanderblue Collection of Smithiana held by the Kress Library and its accompanying published catalogue. This bibliography updates the catalogue, which only had a very limited original circulation. The problem with Adam Smith is not one of attribution but the re-shaping of his work by the accompanying commentary and notes or the effect of translation and abridgement. This critical bibliography hopes to bring order to this process. A listing of all editions with details of their salient points gives an overview of the critical work on Smith as a leading member of the Scottish Enlightenment.
