OverviewTwo stories, over two hundred years apart, force history detective Paul Breslin to hunt for a lost necklace, a necklace that had once claimed a Queen's life and now was about to ruin the family of his closest friend.During the dark days of the French Revolution, Antoine Lestrade, a lawyer and friend of Robespierre is forced to flee France after Robespierre's execution by the people's committee. Before leaving, Lestrade arranges the theft of the mysterious 'Queen's Necklace'- an artefact that precipitated the execution of the the infamous Marie Antoinette. An escape which is fraught with danger as Lestrade is hounded by the mysterious Nicholas De La Motte. Lestrade inadvertently makes his way to Portugal and on to Sintra where he meets the eccentric Englishman William Beckford and is introduced to the Initiation Well and a mysterious group of people.Over two hundred and fifty years later, the history detective Paul Breslin (first introduced in the novel 'Mirrors') is trying to track down the necklace. He is motivated by the hold which a descendant of De La Motte has over a friend. In a parallel to the original story, Paul eventually finds himself at the Initiation Well where his life is put under threat. Two stories, over two hundred years apart, force history detective Paul Breslin to hunt for a lost necklace, a necklace that had once claimed a Queen's life and now was about to ruin the family of his closest friend.During the dark days of the French Revolution, Antoine Lestrade, a lawyer and friend of Robespierre is forced to flee France after Robespierre's execution by the people's committee.
