Reviews

One of the most unique and clever jewelry making books that I've seen hit the bookshelves in a while ... a variety of jewelry that is not only innovative and stylish but also wearable from day to night. This book definitely delivers with easy to follow, comprehensively written instructions accompanied by clear detailed photographs. The experienced jewelry metal worker will want to jump right into the projects that start right at the beginning of the book. For those of you who are new to this medium, turn to page 91 for a detailed explanation of the basics you need to get started. The techniques range from cleaning metal, transferring designs with graphite transfer paper, piercing and sawing, filing, dapping, wire riveting, bending, shaping, melting, and making jump rings. The section on soldering covers options for torches and other supplies as well as stick and pick up soldering. This 144-page softcover book is a must have for anyone interested in creating beautiful chain jewelry and I know some of you out there have been playing around with soldering, and this is right up your alley. Joanna Gollberg and Nathalie Mornu, talented duo, have put together 25 necklaces, bracelets, and earrings designs using handmade chain in Chains Chains Chains. I have to admit, it's very inspiring! What better way to spice up your handmade jewelry designs than to include chain that you made from scratch! I love the contemporary designs in the book. And really so many of the chains are lovely as jewelry by themselves with no other components. The technique section in the back shows great step-by-step photos. --Lorelei Eurto This is a wonderful compilation of 25 customizable chain projects from 22 leading jewelry designers. Each project has a fun and funky name for the chain, easy-to-follow instructions, and corresponding photos. And these are not your normal, everyday chains. They are extremely innovative, and once made, ready to be worn one at a time, several at a time, and adorned with charms and fun findings around your neck or wrist or dangled on earrings. Some of the pieces inside include the Cumulus, which resembles a chain of linked clouds; Flock, a set of earrings with dangling sheet-metal birds; and Cages, where you will literally create mini, linked wire-wrapped cages. You will also learn various techniques to apply and practice in each project, like soldering, piercing and sawing, dapping, coloring metal, and pickling. This is your ultimate go-to guide for any piece that begins as, or is simply, a beautiful length of chain. --Belle Armoire Jewelry, Winter 2012 issue Stunning projects ... sometimes I cannot believe to what heights artists and artisans can fly. They will absolutely charm you, inspire you, and encourage your own passion for creating. I cannot recommend this book more highly. It is (a) carefully crafted, stunning, informative, watershed book. - Jean Yates Amazing ... such a beautiful book.
