Overview

Unsure and a little afraid, an old horse arrives at a rescue farm, hoping to find his forever home. After traveling down a winding road, a pickup truck pulling a trailer stops at a farm. When the trailer opens, an old horse steps out. Old Blue, alone, unsure, and trying hard to be brave, has arrived at a horse rescue farm. But what will happen here? As it turns out, there is a warm greeting waiting for Old Blue. Friendly pats, fresh carrots, soft voices, and tender hands welcome the old horse. And there is a young girl, Bobby, who is eager to show Old Blue around. With the big blue sky high above rolling green hills and horses galloping through the pastures, Old Blue takes it all in. It's not easy letting down one's guard, though, as past fears and disappointments are never far from the old horse's thoughts. Will Bobby be able to comfort, soothe, and assure Old Blue that he has found his forever home?

This reassuring rescue story is a tender pick for storytimes, and an author's note detailing the responsibilities of horse ownership and horse rescue organizations makes it an especially appealing addition for collections struggling to keep pace with avid young horse lovers.--Kit Ballenger ""Booklist"" (3/15/2025 12:00:00 AM) A heartwarming charmer. Readers will root for this horse all the way.-- ""Kirkus"" (1/18/2025 12:00:00 AM)

Colleen Muske has been an artist most of her life. She has studied at Minneapolis Community College, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and dozens of workshops, conferences, and private artists' studios. After taking her first children's book illustration class, Colleen knew that children's books were her calling. Colleen lives in Stillwater, Minnesota, in a creaky old cottage, with her husband, three dogs, and two cats. Her horse Gus lives close by on her daughter's farm. Christopher Thornock is an artist and illustrator who lives with his family near Salt Lake City, Utah. He received formal art training at Art Center College of Design and Brigham Young University.
