Overview

Resulting from a contribution made to the BBC's Millennium Archive 'The Century Speaks', Boyhood Memories of Another World relates the anxiety and excitement experienced by a schoolboy living on the coast of East Anglia during the Second World War. The sense of foreboding through the expectation of gas attack and invasion is soon replaced by a variety of new fears and a life of shortages and rations following the upheaval of evacuation.

Author Information

Brian Cobb was born and educated in Ipswich during the 1930s and was one of the many children evacuated to Leicestershire during the Second World War. His working life began as an apprentice trolleybus fitter but he has enjoyed many other occupations, including working for Powers Samas as an accounting machine engineer, Defence Contract Administration with Marconi Radar, and as a courier for American service personnel on British and foreign tours. His enthusiasm for transport has led to trips to Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as to Eastern Europe and Russia. He began to write upon retirement and has published two books relating to trolleybuses. A further two books which celebrate the 50 years of the Ipswich Motorbus were likewise published.
