Ukrainian born Viktor Shokin is a life-long attorney who began practicing law in the 1980's. His professional career spanned across many pivotal events in Eastern Europe including the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the re-unification of East and West Germany which led to the creation of the independent nation of Ukraine, the Orange Color Revolution, the Euromaidan uprising, and the annexation of Crimea to Russia. During that time Mr. Shokin held the position as the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine three times. In 2015, he was appointed as the lead attorney of Ukraine and became the Prosecutor General of the country. He held that position, making great strives to combat crime and corruption, until he began successful criminal investigations into Mikola Zlochevsky's Burisma company and its Board of Director Hunter Biden. The investigations spurred the concerns of Hunter Biden's father, the then U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. In response to these investigations, Joe Biden insisted on Shokin's removal from office and threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid funds until Shokin was fired.
